Through the Clubhouse Collective Impact community outreach initiative we’ve met and welcomed some very talented and creative young people to the Flagship Clubhouse.  Multimedia producer and artist Omar Omar has joined us from AmplifyMe to work on a series of projects for Adobe Youth Voices  through the Clubhouse Entrepreneurial Internship program.

So far 2012 has been a great year for Clubhouse member and multimedia producer Gabriel Ward.  In addition to earning a merit-based Intel Clubhouse to College/Clubhouse to Career scholarship, Gabe also made it to the final round of a video production competition sponsored by Intel and the America’s Promise Alliance.  With his original script idea and storyboard, he earned a $1,000 video production budget to use toward addressing the current high school drop out crisis.

For the past month Gabe and Smaibery, an up-and-coming  young music producer and Clubhouse member, collaborated in the Clubhouse studio to produce an original soundtrack for the final storyline.

Last Saturday ten Clubhouse members pitched in as actors and crew members to produce the final video.   We submitted the project to APA on Friday and we’re hoping to hear back soon.  If selected, Gabe, Smaibery and four other Clubhouse members will earn an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC to present their project in front of a large audience of teachers, policy makers, students and education professionals from across the country.

Clubhouse members worked very hard to make this happen.  Please watch the premiere below, keep us in mind and send a lot of good vibes our way as we wait to hear back.

In an effort to expose Clubhouse members to new ways of seeing and new methods of producing meaningful personalized objects, we’ve invited parents of members to share their artistic skills with the Clubhouse community.  This week it was all about photography, felting, music and game-making…

We’re planning on hosting a few new workshops in March which we hope will be led by Clubhouse members and supported by parent volunteers.

The Flagship has been buzzing with production these past couple of weeks.  Through our partnerships with AmplifyMe and YouthBuild we’ve strengthened our creative network.  Young artists working with multiple mentors across youth programs have begun to collaborate with peers on design projects in the Clubhouse space.

Week after week we continue to document and track the development of portfolio projects.  Our hope is that in May we’ll be able to host an open house party to share the products and presentations that have come about through our partnerships.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Collective Impact is a community outreach initiative geared toward uniting young leaders and innovators from Boston in a safe and creative informal learning environment.

As a community, we have come to understand the importance of fostering a positive and productive youth space that encourages creative collaboration.  This initiative invites young people across youth programs and beyond to participate in Computer Clubhouse workshops and internships geared toward promoting the art of programming environments, forming and maintaining productive systems and building strong social networks both on and offline.

We are currently working with Youth Build, The Work Force, AmplifyMe, The Young People’s Project, Upward Bound and Our Space Our Place on a pilot program that we hope will set the foundation for collective impact in the way of paid youth internships and unique peer led learning opportunities at the Flagship.

I believe that every creative project is like a little seed planted in soil.  It has the power to inspire life and give meaning.

In 2011 the members of the Flagship Computer Clubhouse planted hundreds of little creative seeds in our community.

Our kids know the power of media arts.  They have spent the past year helping to document our daily Clubhouse activities with pictures and video.

Their creative work has rendered a beautiful and diverse garden of ideas.

We’ve had a great year and we’re looking forward to many more productive collaborations in 2012.

Clubhouse member and mentor Trevor Ward recently shared with us a crafty little fix for old Gameboy games.

His mission is to help other passionate gamers get the most play out of their old game cartridges.

The Clubhouse Entrepreneurs have been busy these past couple of months working on a project called Lights On!  The web series which will begin airing as a segment on our blog starting mid January is composed of perspectives from artists, performers, filmmakers, dancers and creators from all walks of life who have managed to turn their art into businesses.  We’ve been interviewing freelancers, business owners and producers working within a wide range of genres and who have successfully paired  artistic talents with entrepreneurial skills.

Our hope is to capture and share perspectives and ideas that might help business minded young people get started as artist and entrepreneurs.

The first episode of Lights On! is scheduled for release on Sunday January 15th.  Please stay tuned for Adio Ash and his insights on the business of Photography.

This week the Flagship welcomed back several Clubhouse alumni and invited Clubhouse coordinators from Jordan and South Africa to join in on a Friday night photo shoot.

Also, in the last few of weeks we’ve enjoyed collaborative multimedia workshops with groups from Youth Build, Our Space Our Place and the Curley Middle School.
